Academic Writing

Academic writing in the context of teaching English as a foreign language in Indonesian higher education is still an issue. Some lecturers may run out of ways to teach their students’ academic writing skill, so they rely on traditional and monotonous teaching models. On the other hand, students who have not been able to master academic writing skills to their fullest extent feel stressed and this affects their academic and professional achievements. Basically, academic writing is not always about the results of the writing, but what needs to be emphasized is the writing process. The theory of the process-based approach in academic writing has actually recently become a trend and has been proven to improve students’ academic writing results. Unfortunately, the application of this approach in academic writing classes in Indonesia is still not optimal. Moreover, writing classes now cannot only rely on face-to-face or offline classes, where blended learning is what students need. Coupled with the demands of the times where students must be able to collaborate well is also an unforgettable issue. Therefore, this module book is a solution to these problems by presenting teaching instructions that are rooted in a model called Blended- Collaborative Writing Instruction. This instructional model combines various theories and practices that have been empirically tested and are able to maximize the teaching and learning of academic writing in a better direction.
